The construction site of the tire factory of the Chinese company Linglong located by the main road Belgrade – Zrenjanin in Serbia was one of the places where the traffic was blocked last weekend.
The Serbian government has declared the factory a project of special importance to the state, so according to the new law on expropriation, private property can be confiscated for its needs in a prompt procedure.
Previously, Linglong was given state construction land and about 100 million dollars in aid from the state budget. The investment, which was announced to have a total value of around one billion dollars, has been provoking protests from environmental activists since the beginning, because it has been built without a study on environmental impact assessment.
It was recently discovered that there was a labor camp where the Chinese investor kept more than 400 Vietnamese construction workers whose passports had previously been confiscated and the workers were accomodated in severe conditions.
